In order to continue in its pursuit of excellence and provide a conducive teaching and learning environment, Workers High School identified six strategic objectives from the long list of critical issues in the school to respond to. They were derived from the findings of the SWOT and PESTLE analysis.
Each of the six strategic objectives is further broken down into specific work assignments that clearly reflect desired outcomes.
Therefore, the objectives function as the road maps to the achievement of the ultimate strategic goal. By so doing the activities identify the specific changes or improvements needed to accomplish each of the seven strategic objectives.
The strategies identified in this strategic plan document show how the activities that support each of the seven strategic objectives will be achieved. These will be the performance tasks that everybody involved in the implementation of the plan must undertake in order to make its realization a reality.
1. To ensure that there is value addition by having the lowest as a mean score of 4.0 in KCSE.(NB: it should go to up each year)
(i) Ensuring that students have personal targets in each subject each year under the guidance of the subject teacher
(ii) Ensuring that each subject has a target to achieve each year.
(iii) Ensuring that each class has a target to achieve each year.
(iv) Encourage use of personal study time tables to enhance time management each term.
(v) Engage students in group discussions under the supervision of subject teachers.
(vi) Encourage fortnightly presentations of individual research assignments.
(vii) Establish a reward and sanction scheme for academic performance.
(viii) Step up guidance and counseling to help improve students self esteem
(ix) Clear the syllabus by form 4 term II to allow enough time for revision.
2. To achieve an effective curriculum organization and implementation.
It was noted that the school’s time wasters were:
Change over time between classes each day.
Students being sent home for school fees.
Long meetings and staff briefs.
No make-up classes especially when a teacher was away with permission.
(i) Both teachers and students to improve greatly on change over time.
(ii) Parents should be sensitized on coming to the school promptly when a student is sent home.
(iii) Administration to makes frequent informal appearance with staff reduce the number and length of meetings and staff briefs.
(iv) Classes to be attended in good time.
(v) Create more time for lost lessons e.g during lunch breaks and Saturday (2-4pm)
3. To develop a viable student management framework that effectively supports positive results / dynamics.
(i) Ensure a student support and outreach programme that is responsive to adolescence challenges and crisis and effectively supports positive academic, social and moral performance.
(ii) On an ongoing basis and throughout the operational life of the strategic plan, efforts as well as appropriate changes made to develop and sustain a warm school climate and enabling environment where all students can realize their full potential, succeed and excel.
(iii) Harmonize the academic and co-curricular activities with an emphasis on helping all students to discover and nurture their talents.
(iv) Promote mutual respect and trust between students and staff through sustained dialogue.
(v) Disseminate appropriate information, thus position students to make informed choices and decisions with regard to academic, social and moral pathways.
(vi) Establish different levels of managing students indiscipline by all; i.e Principal, Deputy Principal, class teachers, subject teachers, prefects e.t.c.
(vii) Incorporate both punitive and remedial values into the envisioned disciplinary framework.
4. To develop a viable staff management framework that effectively supports positive results / dynamics.
(i) Ensure open communication at all times.
(ii) Ensure role description, duty allocation and job descriptions.
(iii) Create ongoing avenues for continuous exchange of views.
(iv) Ensure staff motivation.
